Blogging Update

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a lovely summer. Mine is sadly about to come to an end. I’ve been a bit MIA this past month and that has a lot to do with me focusing on my college applications. I’ve decided to apply to quite a few schools (12 total) and am trying to get as much done as possible before school starts up again in a couple weeks.

Along with the distraction that comes along with college apps, I’ve been plagued with computer problems this past couple months, and my trustworthy laptop has finally taken it’s last breath (its demise ushered along by my water wielding reckless younger brother). I luckily have a desktop to fall back on but since its shared communally among my family I don’t get much of a chance to be on it and sadly college apps are the priority. I just wanted y’all to know so you’re not left drowning in curiosity as to my disappearance. I’ll pop in every now and hope to be back to blogging full time soon.

Happy Reading!

Get To Know Me Tag

I spotted this tag over at the Wanderlust Reader blog and it looked like a lot of fun so I decided to try it out!

Books

CAN YOU STOP READING AT ANY TIME, OR DOES IS HAVE TO BE A CERTAIN PAGE OR CHAPTER?

I can stop reading at any time, I don’t have to finish the page or chapter or even paragraph. I’ll just mark the page I was on and start from the top when I come back to it.

DO YOU EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING WHILST READING?

I sometimes snack or drink while eating but I can’t read while eating lunch or dinner.

ONE BOOK AT A TIME OR SEVERAL AT ONCE?

At this given moment I am reading 4 book at once. I don’t mean to read several at once but whenever I put a book down for awhile sometimes another one catches my eye and I can’t wait to finish the one I’m already reading and then it goes on and on until I’m reading 5 books at once.

CAN YOU READ LISTENING TO MUSIC OR WATCHING TV?

I am very easily distracted especially when listening to music with actual lyrics or a TV show. I usually listen to classical music or movie scores if I’m reading somewhere with lots of people and noise to tune them out. I can’t watch TV and read at the same time, I’ll either become super engrossed in the books and tune the show out completely and miss everything or watch the show while the book lays open on my lap forgotten.

READING AT HOME OR EVERYWHERE?

I can read anywhere, I love reading at home (fewer distractions) but if I have to be out and about all I need are some headphones and a place to sit.

READING OUT LOUD OR IN YOUR HEAD?

The only time I read out loud is when I’m reading to my brothers before bed otherwise in my head.

DO YOU READ AHEAD OR SKIP PAGES?

I hate accidentally spoiling myself so I try not to look ahead even a couple lines so that doesn’t happen. But the one instance in which I’ll break that habit is when characters are breaking into someones office and rifling trough it or something, in situations like that I always look ahead a few paragraphs or even pages to see how it turns out then double back and read it.

BREAKING THE SPINE OR KEEPING IT NEW?

I love breaking in the spine of books cause it shows that you love the books and that you obviously have it read more than once, it also makes handling the book a lot easier.

DO YOU WRITE BOOKS OR JUST READ THEM?

I started writing A book, it’s been progressing at a slow pace but it’s happening.

FIVE FAVORITE BOOKS:

The Martian

A Court of Mist and Fury

The Name of The Wind

August Anticipated Book Releases

Books, Books, Books! There are new ones coming out this month (as well as every other) and these are just a few that have caught my eye!

Wonderwoman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo August 29

wonderwomanShe will become one of the world’s greatest heroes: WONDER WOMAN. But first, she is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. And her fight is just beginning. . . .

Diana longs to prove herself to her legendary warrior sisters. But when the opportunity finally comes, she throws away her chance at glory and breaks Amazon law—risking exile—to save a mere mortal. Even worse, Alia Keralis is no ordinary girl and with this single brave act, Diana may have doomed the world.

Alia just wanted to escape her overprotective brother with a semester at sea. She doesn’t know she is being hunted. When a bomb detonates aboard her ship, Alia is rescued by a mysterious girl of extraordinary strength and forced to confront a horrible truth: Alia is a Warbringer—a direct descendant of the infamous Helen of Troy, fated to bring about an age of bloodshed and misery.

Together, Diana and Alia will face an army of enemies—mortal and divine—determined to either destroy or possess the Warbringer. If they have any hope of saving both their worlds, they will have to stand side by side against the tide of war

I love Leigh Bardugo and Wonder Woman individually so both these things combined makes twice the fun. I’m really excited for this and can’t wait to read it!

Wicked Like Wildfire by Lana Popovic August 15

wickedlikeawildfireAll the women in Iris and Malina’s family have the unique magical ability or “gleam” to manipulate beauty. Iris sees flowers as fractals and turns her kaleidoscope visions into glasswork, while Malina interprets moods as music. But their mother has strict rules to keep their gifts a secret, even in their secluded sea-side town. Iris and Malina are not allowed to share their magic with anyone, and above all, they are forbidden from falling in love.

But when their mother is mysteriously attacked, the sisters will have to unearth the truth behind the quiet lives their mother has built for them. They will discover a wicked curse that haunts their family line—but will they find that the very magic that bonds them together is destined to tear them apart forever?

This seems like it is going to be a great YA fantasy which will heavily explore family and have a large emphasis on that and I’m looking forward to checking it out.

Crystal Blade by Kathryn Purdie August 15

Crystal BladeThe peace is unsustainable.

Sonya and Anton may have brought about a revolution, but can they protect their homeland—and their love—with so many forces threatening to tear them apart?

The empire has fallen, Valko faces trial, and Sonya is finally free from her fate as Sovereign Auraseer. But Sonya’s expanding abilities are just as unstable as the new government of Riaznin—and her relationship with Anton. Not only can she feel the emotions of others but, unlike other Auraseers, she’s learned to make others feel her emotions as well. And Sonya isn’t immune to dark temptations.

Now, as Sonya fights to contain her own darkness, she senses a new evil lurking in the shadows of the palace. Someone from Sonya’s past has returned. And that someone won’t be satisfied until Sonya pays for the mistakes she’s made.

I read the first book last year and I loved it! I’m super excited for the sequel and how this story will progress. Honestly, I can’t remember all the details from the first book so I may have some refreshing to do before I read it but I’ll definitely be getting to it soon.

Royally Endowed by Emma Chase August 14

royally endowedLogan St. James is a smoldering, sexy beast. Sure, he can be a little broody at times—but Ellie Hammond’s willing to overlook that. Because, have you seen him??

Sexy. As. Hell.

And Ellie’s perky enough for both of them.

For years, she’s had a crush on the intense, gorgeous royal security guard—but she doesn’t think he ever saw her, not really.

To Logan, Ellie was just part of the job—a relative of the royal family he’d sworn to protect. Now, at 22 years old and fresh out of college, she’s determined to put aside her X-rated dreams of pat-downs and pillow talk, and find a real life happily ever after.

The Queen of Wessco encourages Ellie to follow in her sister’s footsteps and settle down with a prince of her own. Or a duke, a marquis…a viscount would also do nicely.

But in the pursuit of a fairy tale ending, Ellie learns that the sweetest crushes can be the hardest to let go.

***

Logan St. James grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, in a family on the wrong side of the law. But these days, he covers his tattoos and scars with a respectable suit. He’s handsome, loyal, brave, skilled with his hands and…other body parts.

Any woman would be proud to call him hers.

But there’s only one woman he wants.

For years he’s watched over her, protected her, held her hair back when she was sick, taught her how to throw a punch, and spot a liar.

He dreams of her. Would lay down his life for her.

But beautiful Ellie Hammond’s off-limits.

Everybody knows the bodyguard rules: Never lose focus, never let them out of your sight, and never, ever fall in love

There’s nothing better than a good romance and Emma Chase does them well, I read the first two books earlier this year and really enjoyed them and I’m looking forward to this one as well!

What books are you eagerly anticipating this month?

Happy Reading!
