April Anticipated Releases

What is the best thing about the beginning of a new month? The plethora of books that will be released!! Despite my massive TBR pile, it’s always fun to look for new releases of books that can be added to that ever-growing stack. April is already shaping up to be a stellar month with all of these new releases. bookshopeful

Shadowcaster Cinda Williams Chima April 4

shadowcasterAlyssa ana’Raisa is the reluctant princess heir to the Gray Wolf throne of Fells, a queendom embroiled in a seemingly endless war. Hardened by too many losses, Lyss is more comfortable striking with a sword than maneuvering at court. After a brush with death, she goes on the offensive, meaning to end the war that has raged her whole life. If her gamble doesn’t pay off, she could lose her queendom before she even ascends to the throne.

Across enemy lines in Arden, young rising star Captain Halston Matelon has been fighting for his king since he was a lýtling. Lately, though, he finds himself sent on ever more dangerous assignments. Between the terrifying rumors of witches and wolfish warriors to the north and his cruel king at home, Hal is caught in an impossible game of life and death.

Set in the world of the acclaimed Seven Realms series, this is a thrilling story of the unfathomable costs of war, the allure of dark magic, and two principled and conflicted characters, drawn together despite everything they stand to lose.

I am a huge Cinda Williams Chima fan, I loved her Heir Chronicles series and I’m really excited for this release. I haven’t read Flamecaster yet, which is the first book in this spin-off series. I really want to binge read the original seven realms series before I start this one. I originally read the first two books in the seven realms series and I have no idea why I stopped but I will get back to them eventually.

Spindle Fire by Lexa Hillyer April 11, 2017

spindle fireHalf sisters Isabelle and Aurora are polar opposites: Isabelle is the king’s headstrong illegitimate daughter, whose sight was tithed by faeries; Aurora, beautiful and sheltered, was tithed her sense of touch and her voice on the same day. Despite their differences, the sisters have always been extremely close.

And then everything changes, with a single drop of Aurora’s blood–and a sleep so deep it cannot be broken.

As the faerie queen and her army of Vultures prepare to march, Isabelle must race to find a prince who can awaken her sister with the kiss of true love and seal their two kingdoms in an alliance against the queen.

Isabelle crosses land and sea; unearthly, thorny vines rise up the palace walls; and whispers of revolt travel in the ashes on the wind. The kingdom falls to ruin under layers of snow. Meanwhile, Aurora wakes up in a strange and enchanted world, where a mysterious hunter may be the secret to her escape . . . or the reason for her to stay.

Spindle Fire is the first book in a lush fantasy duology set in the dwindling, deliciously corrupt world of the fae and featuring two truly unforgettable heroines.

This cover was the first thing that caught my eye when I first saw it on Goodreads, it’s so whimsical and pretty! The blurb is also very intriguing and has me super excited to read it.

Duels and Deception by Cindy Anstey April 11

duelsanddeceptionMiss Lydia Whitfield, heiress to the family fortune, has her future entirely planned out. She will run the family estate until she marries the man of her late father’s choosing, and then she will spend the rest of her days as a devoted wife. Confident in those arrangements, Lydia has tasked her young law clerk, Mr. Robert Newton, to begin drawing up the marriage contracts. Everything is going according to plan.

Until Lydia—and Robert along with her—is kidnapped. Someone is after her fortune and won’t hesitate to destroy her reputation to get it. With Robert’s help, Lydia strives to keep her family’s good name intact and expose whoever is behind the devious plot. But as their investigation delves deeper and their affections for each other grow, Lydia starts to wonder whether her carefully planned future is in fact what she truly wants…

I love historical books with a strong dose of mystery and this book seems to have exactly that and so I’m super excited to read this. I also happen to really love this cover.

Twist by Kylie Scott April 11

twistWhen his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot, bearded, bartender extraordinaire, Joe Collins, only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, friendly, and pretty much everything he’s been looking for in a woman. And in no time at all they’re emailing up a storm, telling each other their deepest darkest secrets… apart from the one that really matters.

And when it comes to love, serving it straight up works better than with a twist.

Kylie Scott is another one of those authors that I just need to read all of her books the second they come out. I love her Stage Dive series, it’s one of my favorite NA series and I really enjoyed Dive, when I read it last year and so I’m really excited to read Twist as well.

Midnight Jewel by Richelle Mead April 25

midnightjewelIn MIDNIGHT JEWEL, Richelle Mead goes beyond the glitz and glamour of the Glittering Court, delving into the dark, political underbelly of Cape Triumph through the eyes of one girl who dares to fight for her freedom.

A refugee of war, Mira was cast out of her home country and thrust into another, where the conditions were inhospitable at best. In a life-altering twist of fate, she is given the chance to escape once more, and she takes it, joining the Glittering Court.

Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies who appear destined for powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. There, Mira finds herself subjected to persecution, not only from her fellow Glittering Court jewels but from her suitors, as well—men she would potentially be expected to give her life to.

By day, she goes through the motions, learning the etiquette and customs that will help to earn her anonymity, even making a couple true friends in the process, the forthright ladies’ maid Adelaide and the ambitious laundress Tamsin. But by night, Mira hatches a different plan entirely—one that, if exposed, could get her hanged in the highest court of Adoria.

I was super intrigued when I first heard the concept of The Glittering Court series. It’s one story, or series of events told from a different point of view in each book. I did enjoy the first book in this series although it was a little confusing at the end but I’m sure that some of the questions we had left over from the previous book will be resolved somewhat in this one.

These are just a few of the books I’m excited for this month! What are some new releases you just can’t wait for?

Happy Reading!
